Nerdom and Other Nonsense Anime Podcast #036 - Lustrous Philosophy

Bcom and Leo are on to weeks 7 and 8 of the Fall 2017 anime season.

This week Anime-Gataris dropped all pretense as the words Waga na wa Yuirin!!! were yelled by voice actress Rie Takahashi, confirming this show is indeed part of the KonoSubaverse, and is actually the season 3 we've been waiting for. Juuni Taisen spent two episodes on really boring characters that we'd just like to put behind us, and move on from. Just Because finally hooks Leo with some intriguing romantic drama as Ena finally starts to take her selfie more seriously. Inuyashiki "kills" but then doesn't kill two characters in a sequence that confused the shit out of Bcom. Yuuta and Moriko in MMO Junkie have finally received their version 1.0.0 patch and can start really playing the game they're meant to be playing. Kino's Journey continues to raise intriguing questions about humanity, even if it doesn't quite live up to the original in Bcom's opinion. The Girls dab their way through the Windows 3D Pipes screensaver and bake some cookies. The Ancient Magus Bride slowly but surely becomes more confident in her abilities and has gained a sweet doggo sidekick. Blood Blockade continues to be a platform for Bones' animators to unleash their wildest creative urges. And Phos is now so many gems in one that we're surprised she doesn't have multiple personality disorder...though that's probably coming.

Nerdom and Other Nonsense Anime Podcast #035 - Leo's Roommate is Literally Asta

This week Leo and Bcom catch up with weeks 5 and 6 of the Fall 2017 anime season. As we hit midseason several of the shows we're following really started to hit their stride.

Animegataris showed us one of the most authentic comiket episodes we've seen to date. Juuni Taisen got brutal, and ended some plotlines maybe a bit too early. Just Because continues to be totally fantastic and untouchable, and Leo will definitely not complain about it in this podcast. Inuyashiki places internet trolls in its sights this time around, and the MMO Junkies leave the internet to finally clear up some misunderstandings in person. Kino isn't even the main character in her own journey anymore, it seems, but the Girls are making the most of their last tour as they discover the magic of music amidst a passing rain shower. The Ancient Magus' Slave continues to annoy Bcom by teasing romance between the protagonists, but at least the King and Queen have arrived with the royal jiggle physics. Butlers and mosquitoes wreak havoc in Blood Blockade, and finally Land of the Lustrous gets really nerdy with its geology references.

Nerdom and Other Nonsense Anime Podcast #034 - Inuyashiki Blows Our Minds

Enough premium customers purchased and listened to the Fall 2017 season impressions, so we are proud to now finally release a podcast covering episodes 3 and 4 of the 10 shows we chose to watch. Thank you for purchasing the season pass for this podcast and we hope to fully monetize our listenership to the greatest extent possible as soon as we learn how to open a bank account.

But seriously, this podcast is a little late and it's all Bcom's fault. Nonetheless, we soldier on and this time we talk about Animegataris' brilliant referential humor, Juuni Taisen's awesome, if inconsistent, animation, and Just Because opening up as many romantic possibilities as Gamers did. Also, Inuyashiki episode 4 opens with a scene that blew our minds, and some yakuza guy as well. That MMO junkie still hasn't recovered, Kino wasn't even the main character in her latest journey, and the Girls briefly added a guy to their Last Tour, but he took a wrong turn because of a mapquest that put them all in grave danger. Cats make the best Kings in Ancient Magus' Bride, Blood Blockade continues to be as over-the-top as you could ask for, and the most fanservicey of snails transforms into something resembling a Jigglypuff as we close out the episode with Land of the Lustrous.

Nerdom and Other Nonsense Anime Podcast #033 - Fall 2017 First Impressions - Part 2

Leo and Bcom finish off the remainder of their Fall 2017 first impressions with 15 shows that air on Fridays and Saturdays, alone. But, in the end, they need to narrow the anime season down to the 10 shows they most want to watch, and this season there's actually a large enough variety of shows that we have some disagreements over what we should be watching!

I mean, who knew that Dies Irae would be such an articulate and intelligently written parody of the current state of U.S. politics? Or that Love Live! Sunshine!! season 2 would play a hilarious goof on its fanbase by rescreening season 1 over again and pretending that it's actually different. Oh these anime studios and their amazing practical jokes.

We can't decide if Kino is a boy or a girl, but what's most important is that Kino is Kino, and that the girls from Land of the Lustrous have nice legs. Ancient Magus' Bride seems to have watched Britney Spears' "I'm a Slave For You" music video a few too many times. They've also gone past March in March Comes in Like a Lion, so I guess March Came Like a...wait...that seems...no, I can see why they stuck with the original title.

Tsuredure Children proves us right for cutting Convenience Store Boy Friends with one of its best episodes to date, Leo explains the similarities between his childhood town and Manoyama in Sakura Quest, and Karen single-handedly saves Gamers! from itself. Finally, we witness another spectacular dancing scene in Virgin Soul, Made in Abyss gets "Blaze Reap" into some new lore, 18if is slightly more comprehensible this week, and the Cheer Fruits participate in a rare, plot-relevant bath scene!
